J-Channel Cutters
Use Malco’s versatile J-Channel Cutters to make drain tabs, downstream notch cutouts, and miter trim cuts in vinyl channel. Available in three sizes for 1/2 inch (12.7 mm) channel using model JCC50R, 5/8 inch (15.9 mm) channel using model JCCR, and 3/4 inch (19.1 mm) channel using model JCC75R. Tool operation is fast and easy! Light hand pressure produces a single handle click signal to ensure perfect drain tabs every time. Graduations on the upper jaw easily gauge tab or notch depths from 3/8 to 1-1/4 in. (9.5 – 31.2 mm). Use either side of the jaws to cut a 45-degree miter for a professional finished look. Hardened all-steel construction with rust resistant nickel chrome and black oxide finishes ensures long service life.
Malco’s J-Channel Cutters also feature ergonomic RedLine Handle technology. An Engineered handle opening compliments the natural power stroke of any user’s hand and maximizes the powerful 7:1 mechanical advantage of compound-leverage head to handle linkage. Comfortable handle grip contours, a non-slip grip insert, spring handle actuation, and a thumb-operated handle latch ensure a natural fit and feel for comfortable one hand operation anywhere on the job.
NOTE: The JCC75R knockout is sized for industry standard ¾ in. J-Channel, which typically runs 1 in. To prevent water damage from freezing, this tools knockout is 1 in., and not ¾ in.
FAQs
Q: How do I select the correct size?
A: Refer to the Specifications table to identify the correct tool for you. The nominal j channel size the tool is designed to work with is included in the description of the tool. The Knockout width in inches is the width of the cut out / tab created by the tool allowing you to select the correct cut size for the material you are working with.
Catalog Number | Knock out Width in. (mm)
|
Nominal J -Channel Size |
JCC50R | .655” (16) | 1/2” (12.7mm) |
JCCR | .840” (21) | 5/8” (15.9mm) |
JCC75R | .975” (24) | ¾” (19.1 mm) |
Q: The tool is hard to squeeze/punch, I need to use two hands.
A: Depending on the temperature and the thickness of the vinyl it can be difficult to apply enough pressure to cut the material as 2 cuts are being made at the same time.
Q: J-Channel is cracking when I use this tool.
A: Applying even pressure to the tool throughout the cutting process prevents over travel which leads to cracked drain tabs. We recommend you practice on scrap to perfect this skill.
Cold and Old material can also crack more easily making it harder to work with.
Q: How do I cut a drain tab rather than fully cutting through the material?
A: We recommend practicing on scrap material before working with the finished product as you will learn how much pressure is needed to cut the tab as you work with the tool.

Revised review
Originally bought the JCC75R but it didn't work in my J-Channel. Spoke with customer support and he was very helpful. He gave detailed explanation of how the sizing works with these cutters and various J-Channels. He shipped out the 5/8" JCCR cutters same day and I received them three days later. They are working perfectly on my J-Channel and I'm back in business. Great customer support!Response for Wallace
Response for Wallace
The manufacturers of J-Channel have never adopted a uniform measurement system therefore it is possible that the brand you are using is narrower than this tool was designed for, Malco offers a JCCR that might fit your brand of J-Channel better.WALLACE

Great tool
This tool is pretty good.If you purchase this, the following instructions are mandatory to make this tool profitable:After attaching the J to the wall and going to the next corner use a small scrap (4-6",easy to put in pouch) of the J you are using. Punch out both sides. Now just slip that over the loose end of the J & make your cut mark.M. Hitchcock
Awesome Tool!
This tool saved us a lot of time and frustration when crimping the J-channel to put around our windows. We put vinyl siding on our own house and this tool was a great help and definitely worth the money.P. Tjarks
