Stone Coated Steel Roofing Cutter

This steel roofing cutter makes fast, safe, precise cuts in stone coated steel shingles, shakes and tile style roofing, including DECRA, METRO and GERARD brands, all season long. The compound leverage and a generous handle length of the SCSRC1 Cutter reduces user cutting force up to 30% versus other guillotine style cutters that pose a challenge to even the most seasoned pros. The shingle, including lock seam, is cut in one easy, steady motion. The shearing action has a “wiping” effect on the shingle’s zinc coating that seals the cut edge to resist rust. A hardened steel blade and die offer reversible cutting edges for twice the cutting life, prior to sharpening. And the blade and die are also easily replaceable! With the blade lock-pin in place, this portable cutter is safe to transport and sets up virtually anywhere on the job site. The sturdy frame with two different length leg tubes provides the user with two working table height options. A large table surface allows sure-handed control and prevents damage to the work-piece. And the table’s “feed-thru” design also allows long angle cuts for roof hips and valleys.

FAQs

Q: Will this tool cut asphalt shingles?

A: The Stone Coated Steel Roofing Cutter will work best on metal roofing panels. For asphalt shingles we recommend using the TSS1 (Asphalt Shingle Cutter Drill Attachment).

Q: Length of cutting capacity?

A: The total length of cut from the fully open position is 21”.

Q: Will the shear cut steel corrugated roofing metal?

A: The shear will easily cut corrugated panels however it is not designed to be a throatless shear so the length of cut will be limited to crosscuts. The tool will not make lengthwise cuts.

Q: How long do the blades last?

A: Owners can expect the blades to last for 1750 linear ft (with flipping the blades)

Q: Why is a shearing action superior to an abrasive saw?

A: The Zinc coating on the shingle when sheared provides a wiping action that prevents corrosion. Cutting with abrasives does not provide the wiping action and leads to rust in the field.

Q: How do I adjust the distance between the blades?

A: See the bottom of page 1: SL16365A_Stone Coated Steel Roof Cutter 5 lang. Instructions.indd (malcotools.com)

Q: Can the SCSRC1 be used to cut other materials?

A: Yes, the SCSRC1 can be used to cut flashing and other flat metal materials.

Q: Why are there 2 leg lengths included?

A: There are 2 leg lengths for setting up on a pitch or setting up at either height allowing you to choose the worktable height that fits you best.

Q: Can the blade and die be sharpened?

A: Once the blades have been flipped and used to end of life we recommend replacing the blades with factory original replacements. Some customers have sharpened the blade and die with varying levels of success, replacing the blade and die ensures original factory quality sharpness.

Q: Do you have a more portable option for cutting Stone Coated Shingles?

A: Customers have shared with us that the TSHD and TSCM may be used to cut Stone coated shingles but the blade life will be short for these options. We do sell replacement blades for these tools and if you as the customer do not mind replacing blades regularly, these tools would be an option that would be more portable than the SCSRC1.
